Trade platform for students to learn about market

The quest of finding a good trade platform for personal use is hard. There are different type of financial products, different time horizon, etc. In summary:

1. For forex, MetaTrader 4 is an ideal option. We can choose MetaTrader of Alpari, which offer almost real time news service. Do use ransquawk.com for real-time news.
2. For stock long term: I know virtualtrader.co.uk for UK LSE100 stocks. TD American Trade for American. But don't really know them well. Oh well long term + stock was never my most favourite
3. Short term stocks: Interactive Broker. Students can have a free version through his/her professor. Professors will need to sign up, and students can use after. Including fundamental data for stock as well.
4. Futures (favourite child at the moment): the coolest thing about futures trading is once can see the order book, the "Market" that we keep talking about. A couple options: For only viewing purpose: CME has the official CME Simulation st that has order book info. For real use, either T4 or Firetip, both have order book, amazing.
